Does VirtualShield protect me from Facebook?

Overview

Like other VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), VirtualShield will only protect you if you are not logged in to your Facebook account. For example, if you are browsing the web, Facebook tries to track your location. Our service can prevent that if you are logged out of Facebook.

However if you are logged in, they already know who you are. To make matters worse, you are essentially giving them permission to track you by logging in.

How do I prevent this?

To stop Facebook from tracking, you can disable Location History for your Facebook account. On desktop and laptop computers, you can disable location history from your web browser. On smart phones and tablets, this can be done by opening the Settings app on your device.

See this Facebook support article for more info on how to enable/disable your Location History.

How to disable Location History on your Windows computer:
1

Go to Facebook.com and log in to your account, if you are not logged in already.

2

Click the arrow near the top-right corner to open Settings.

3

Choose Location from the navigation menu, then select the dropdown box to toggle Location History off.

You can follow the same steps at any time to turn Location History on again.
4

That's it! Once you've disabled Location History, you can safely browse on Facebook while you're connected to the VPN.

Facebook will only be able to see the IP address & location of the server you're connected to. They will not be able to recognize your actual location.

Common Questions

?
Can Facebook still see who I am?
Yes that's right. If you are logged in to your personal account, Facebook still knows who you are. The only way to fully prevent this is by logging out of your account, or creating a new account on Facebook.
?
Is this required in order to use Facebook?
No, disabling location history is not required. However, it is strongly recommended if you want your location to remain fully private when you browse the web.
