Why are some websites blocked or not loading?

Overview

This likely isn’t a problem with the connection or your device, but due to the fact that some websites don't like people using VPNs. It is not related to VirtualShield in particular, it can happen using other VPNs as well.

Why does this happen?

Certain banks, travel agencies, online stores, and other websites actually block access to people using VPNs. These sites might also block you if you reside outside of the United States.

It is simply due to the fact that these sites often restrict access based on your geographic location. Because of this, they completely block anybody who is using a VPN service.

How do I prevent this?

There is hope! You have two different options in this situation:
1

We have developed a unique service to circumvent these restrictions. In most cases you can simply change your VPN location, and then refresh the page.

All of our U.S. servers come equipped with Unrestricted Streaming out-of-the box, giving you full access to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and many more.

These servers also allow you to access apps and websites that would normally be blocked by a VPN service. See our support article for more info on how to enable State Selection.
2

Alternatively, you can disconnect from the VPN just while using these sites, and then re-connect once you're done. Just be aware these sites will be able to recognize your physical location.

If you enabled Always-on VPN/Connect on Demand previously, you may need to temporarily disable it to prevent the app from re-connecting on its own.
